Rare photo of the Saul 1000 Triad, X808M. Photo caption appears to read: Saul 1000 Triad, serial number 1001 built by Saul Aircraft Corp. Carroll, Ia. The arrangement of the three 65 h.p. LeBlond 5D engines is clearly evident along with the fixed pitch propellers. Note the close position of the wing mounted engines to the fuselage, a characteristic of all early trimotor aircraft. This was done to minimize the effect of asymmetrical thrust in the event of an engine failure of one of the wing mounted engines. Date August 3, 1930. Photographer unknown. (Carroll County Museum)
