By April 1913 Harvey Crawford’s flying skills had progressed to where he wascarrying passengers. Here we see him about to depart with Ms. Bessie Strout, the first woman from the Tacoma, Wash., area to make a flight.
Note that Ms. Strout is seated on the wing with a piece of rope as a foot rest and without any other visible sign of constraint. (Images courtesy of the Washington State Historical Society)
